With the popularity of stand-up paddle boarding reaching new heights every day, organising and SUP race is a great idea to have great fun with commercial benefits as well. Nothing can be more exciting than having the best sup enthusiasts coming in and participating in the event. This will not only increase the value of the competition, but the overall popularity of the sport will go up manifolds.
Sup races can be organised for a variety of purposes. The obvious reason is to make the sport popular. However, many use it as a fundraiser for charities, to promote healthy living and also for commercial reasons. Sup equipment makers use it often to increase their sales.
So what does it take to organise a successful sup race? Here are some ideas that you need to toy around with if you want your race to be successful.
1. Involve experienced persons: Ideally you should involve one or more sportsmen who are experienced in sup races. They will know the technicalities involved in arranging these races. Apart from these paddlers, you would also need people who are experienced in arranging events. Remember that you will need to provide facilities not only for the participants but also to the spectators who would be present to cheer for their favourite teams. People who are experienced can share the responsibilities of arranging the sup race, reducing the burden on your shoulders to a large extent.
2. Hire the venue: The choice of the venue will be determined by the format of the race that you have chosen, and the number of competitors that you expect. If it is a friendly race and the number of participants is less, then you may choose a smaller water body. However, if you are expecting a large number of paddlers, then you would need a larger venue.
Availability of the right location (water body) might become a problem sometimes, and your event might clash with another event happening in your city. So ensure that you select and book a proper venue from your local authorities well in advance. You will also need to pay the venue charges as well as any other permit costs well in advance to avoid any confusions.
3. Insure the event: As per rules, any competition or even that is held needs to be insured properly. To get insured at the right prices, you would need to hunt around for quotations from various sports associations who offer insurances.
5. Sell tickets: No event is successful unless people come to see it. Use online ticketing portals, social media and off-line methods to sell tickets for your event. This will help you raise enough money to cover the costs of the event, and you may even earn some profits as well.
